Instant Messanger
Saturday, 8 November 2003
I have been thinking lately and came to the realisation that almost everyone uses an instant messanger program of some sort. Whether it is AOL, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, ICQ, or a clone of one these, everyone has a screen name. Not everyone, but it sure seems like it. If a person has an email, more than likely they have an instant messanger program. Some people are partial to one over the other and don't ever wnat to change. Majority of the people I talk to use AOL Instant Messanger (AIM), while another large portion use MSN. What with everyone using different Instant Messangers, I desided to use the one that uses them all. There is a program called Trillian which uses all the messangers I've stated in one easy to use program. This way, I can talk to any of my friends that use instant messanger no matter what program they use. Anyway, this journal is not a plug for Trillian, I was going for how everyone uses IMs. It seems more and more people are using IM programs and tlaking to friends via computer. I admit it is almost as good as using a phone, heck its cheaper in the long run, expecially for long distances. But some people I know take advantage of these programs to add to their laziness. I don't mean to make fun of people, maybe a little, but sometimes IMs are just not the answer. Heck, if I want to talk to someone who is right next door, or upstairs, I am going to stop by instead of chat online. To mean, it is easier to talk to people in person... scratch that, I think it means more to talk to people in person. Online seems easier to tell people things that are harder to say in person. These things that are easier to say online, are more than likely things that should be said in person. I know certain people who have used IMs to break up with someone. To me, if you are going to break up with someone, it should be done in person. Over the phone is bad, but online I think is even worse. Even though I shouldn't say much about that, since my last girlfriend I broke up with online. But it was because of a long distance thing and time conflicts. It was easier in that situation. I mean the only reason our relationship lasted as long as it did, was because we never saw each other. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, easier to say stuff online. Yeah, telling people how you feel about them seems easier online, even though, as said before, I think, should be done in person. I mean, how do you even know the person you are chatting with actually is that person. Which brings me to another point. People who use IMs pretending someone they are not are just assholes. Yes, I realise in the process of saying that, I am calling myself an asshole, and yes in that one situation, I was an asshole, and I realise what I did was wrong, and I am sorry. But the main focus of this is someone how doesn't trust someone and uses their screen name to test that fact. Wow, this is confussing to type, that is another reason in person stuff is better. I think it is easier to describe stuff. And since I am having a hard time describing stuff, this means this is a good place to stop. Until next time... Eat a Waffle.
