The Friend Word

| | I am sure we have all heard the phase at one time or another, "I think of you as just a friend." Well, I am sure I heard that phrase more times than I'd like to count, but either way, it made me think. The word friend has many meaning, but yet not. In some situations it can be the best word in the world in others, it is the last thing you want to hear. What is a friend? Well, to me, a friend is someone you can trust, someone you can turn to for help or advice. No wait, that would be considered a BEST friend. This is an addition to the already curious word. I guess a friend is just someone that you hang out with, someone you can have friendly conversation with. Someone who is just there. No wait, I am wrong again. That would be an acquantance. Than what the hell is a friend? Well, my guess is that it falls somewhere between a best friend and an acquantance. I know, I know, I probably spelt acquantance wrong, but you know what I am trying to say. But then I think back to the phase again, "I think of you as just a friend." Does it mean what it means? No I don't think so. I think it falls more toward the acquantace side, or farther. I mean, once you tell somebody how you feel, it is hard to go back to "just being friends" So you say you're going to "just be friends" but then thing get akward, and you end up passing each other without saying hello, or if you do, it seems pushed, like you have to say it. Then you friendship is gone, and the original phase was just a lie. Well, I guess I could go on and on about my views of the word friend, but I want you to think about it for a bit.
