The Runaround Phone
Tuesday, 1 July 2003
I had my summer class in Oshkosh today, which was an hour away. Yesturday, I also had it, and forgot to put my parking pass in my window. I was just lucky they didn't check them yesturday, otherwise I am sure I would have a ticket. Anyway, today I kept reminding myself to put it in the window. I remembered, but I accidentally locked my keys in the car... while it was still running. Yeah, I was like, thats not good. I also didnt have a spare key, since I usually drive the red van and have that spare key in my wallet., which today I drove my mother's. So I tried finding a phone I could call home with. I ran to Reeve. Thinking I could use my AT&T Account card, I used the courtisey phone... that didn't work. I went to the information desk and asked were I could find a pay phone. She told me there was a courtisey phone and I told her I needed to make a long distance call. She told me there was one in the library. So I try using my calling card. It tells me that pay phones use double the minutes and I am now out of minutes. I hang up, and try the quarters in my pocket. Dial the number, the coins come out. What? Put the coins back in, call, they come out again. So I say, fuck it, I am calling collect. Sorry this number can't be called collect. Ok, so now I am pissed. I go back to Reeve, and tell her the story and ask if I can use her phone to call. She says no, and tells me there is a pay phone at Dempsey I can use. So I go to Depsey and find out this pay phone acts the same way. Why? I don't know, maybe you can tell me. Anyway, I go to Acedemic Advising, tell them the story and ask them if I can use their phone. They tell me to go to Reeve, and I am like, I just came from there. And they said, I could use the phone only if they call here. So, yada yada yada, I finally get through and eventually get my keys. I end up being 15 minutes late for a class I showed up 20 minutes early for. In the end, it was a lousy beginning.
